Being a girl has some serious disadvantages when it comes to wanting to make your own Mandalorian armor. For example, you can't just buy some armor plates off ebay or do some fancy cutting and use a trashcan for them. However, thanks to an awesome friend of mine we brainstormed some ideas and figured out a way to use parts of a mannequin to make the plates. I'll put up some images here to help out anyone else who finds themself in a similar position, or give some ideas. My dog watched us while we worked, but here you can see the mannequin part we used, and the blue plates my friend had we used to get ideas. Here the mannequin pieces were all cut out and arranged with the other plates that I had gotten to complete the set. Once we had a color scheme worked out we took the time to spray paint everything and use shoe polish to weather the plates. The last steps we have to do now are just to make sure that the plates get attached properly to the vest that I have custom made. The best part is, the whole painting process took us just today and we cut everything out last night. With my helmet included I have spent less than $200 total on my beskar'gam!

Here's an update. Although this armor set is definitely really awesome I'm thinking about making some plates that would fit me better than these do. Because they came off of a mannequin the stomach plate has an awakard curve to it so it doesn't sit flat on a vest. I've checked out some sites that talk about using molding sintra to fit. After some debating I found a site that sells 12" X 48" sheets of sintra for about $15. I'm going to order some of that and then use boiling water to make it moldable so I can fit it the way I'd like. Once I start on that project I'll put up more updates and pictures.

I've heard good things about sintra, but iirc, it can be quite nasty if you accidentally burn it, so watch out.

Yea, I've heard the same. I have my sheet here ready to start working, but I'm nervous about it even though I'd like to have it ready for Celebration V in August.

Specifically what I was told by a 501st stormie was "Whatever you do, don't burn that, because you'll never get the stench out."

I will definitely keep that in mind! My mom would certainly not be pleased with me if the house ended up smelling for a long time just because of my armor...

I will definitely keep that in mind! My mom would certainly not be pleased with me if the house ended up smelling for a long time just because of my armor... I went to paint a helmet I bought, because of the smell of the paint in my tiny room I'm hesitant to finish. Amazing beskar'gam you made there, very nice. And I love the color scheme.

Heh yea, paint smells fills places fast.
And thanks! My friend helped me work a lot on it because I had all the colors I wanted just wasn't sure how to make it look cool.

Ok, so even though I haven't done much work on my beskar'gam lately, I was looking for pictures of a beskad, and I found this cool link from the Mandalorian Mercs site. mercs.firespray.net/forum/index.php?topic=17432.0It's just a link to how to make weapons, including a beskad, and thought it would be neat to put up in case anyone wanted to take a look at it.

Can you tell me where you picked up the Body for your mold's. As I am in the process of building two different sets of Female beskar'gams, one for my wife and one for a friend as well and I need this for the bust shape.
Also did you soccer shin guards for your shin armor plates? If so great Idea.

Sev, yes, the two shin guards shown are child size and I'm using them as gauntlets although I plan on getting some shin guards that are my size as actual leg guards. As for the plates that are shown here my friend and I went to a clothing store and asked to buy one of the half mannequins that were on display, then we used some heavy duty scissors to cut them out. Unfortunately they don't quite fit well on my body size, but it was a good practice run for how to paint it and work on it. I recently purchased a new set from my friend that fits me much better and I like it more because it's actually made with metal! It looks a little weird because it's draped on the corner of my couch, but it gives a good idea of the nice quality it is. My biggest problem now is I need to make a new vest for it to make sure it fits me well, and then I need to settle on a color scheme. Originally I wanted my armor to be green and yellow, but I love the way it looks in blue and don't want to change it. However, because helmets are notoriously hard to paint, and this one is also so well done, I don't really feel like painting that either. The blue armor also came with a pair of matching gauntlets and a cod piece so it's pretty much a perfect set.

I wish I could claim some sort of credit for how it looks but I actually haven't really done anything except buy it and then be unable to make up my mind as to watch color scheme I want and what will give me the least headache.
